Create A Customized Clothes Pin Display Tutorial!!

Custom clothespin make
Clothes Pin Display
By: Candace Zentner
I don’t know about you but I LOVE to display my creations for a while after I make them. Sometimes, I walk around the house with my latest project in my hand, just so that I can take a peek and marvel at it every few minutes. I found that I really needed a way to display my “artwork” in my craft room, so I came up with an idea using some very simple supplies and the Modern Mama kit from Peppermint Creative.
Hang art Display1
Here is what I used to create my project:
  • Peppermint Creative Modern Mama kit
  • Silhouette Software
  • Plain White Cardstock
  • Clothes Pins
  • Paperclips
  • 3M Command Hooks
  • Twine
  • Buttons
  • Ribbon
  • Adhesive

Here’s how to create your own clothespin display:
Step 1: Print out strips of pattern paper to cover the top of the clothes pin. I designed and cut strips using Silhouette software and the Silhouette machine, but they could also easily be cut using a simple paper cutter.
Step 2: Choose some elements to embellish your clothes pins. (I also cut these using Silhouette software/machine, but this could also be done by hand)

Step 3: Using adhesive (I used ATG tape), adhere the pattern strips to the tops of the clothes pins

Step 4: Glue a paper clip to the back of each clothes pin using a stronger adhesive, like Zip Dry glue.

Step 5: Decorate some of the clothes pins using elements from the Modern Mama kit, combined with buttons, ribbon, etc.

Step 6: Place Command hooks by 3M (I use them because they are not permanent and can easily be removed from wall) onto your wall.
NOTE: My hooks are hidden under a shelf but if you would like to hide the white sticker under the hook, just trim some off.
Step 7: Measure the distance between two hooks with twine, then double it. String clothes pins onto twine through the paper clips.
Step 8: Hook end of the twine with the loop over one hook, then tie the other ends of the twine around the hook on the opposite end

Step 8: Make rosettes using a strip of pattern paper and adhere them to hooks to hide them

Step 9: Add your projects onto your display line by clipping them in the clothes pins
Card Display Line2
This same display line can also be used to display photographs, children’s artwork, or anything else you would like to show off. Another idea is to use some of Miss Mint’s holiday themed kits to change up the clothes pins to match any upcoming holiday! Possibilities are endless!

How to Make Your Own Washi Tape (using Digital Paper)

How to make washi tape digital scrapbook
Make Your Own Washi Tape using your Fave Digital Scrapbook Papers
By: Candace Zentner
I am so in love with washi tape, but I have been recently shopping for tape and I’m getting a touch frustrated. I “need” a roll of tape that goes with every one of my projects, without buying 247 different rolls of washi.  I discovered a way to make my own washi tape from of any pattern I choose, using digital paper!! Jackpot!!
Here is what you need to make some of your own:
Make own washi tape PIC 1
Super simple supplies:
  • Plain white tissue paper (I get mine from the Dollarstore)
  • Two sided tape (whatever width you prefer)
  • One scrap piece of paper
  • Digital paper (I used digital paper from the Summer Sparkles kit on my card shown below)
  • Tape
  • Printer
Let’s get started:
1. Using whichever software works best for you (Silhouette Software, Photoshop, Word, etc.) create rectangles slightly wider than your two sided tape and fill them with the digital paper you choose. NOTE: All the patterns shown in the picture below are from Peppermint Creative.

2. Cut a piece of tissue paper larger (about ¾” on each side) than scrap paper.

3. Fold overlapping edges of tissue paper over scrap paper, and tape down.

4. Make sure all tissue paper is taped down well, all the way around, to ensure the paper doesn’t get caught/jammed in your printer then send paper through printer.

5. Carefully remove tissue paper from scrap paper

6. Flip the printed tissue paper over (very important – don’t forget to do this!) and run a strip of two-sided tape along printed pattern strip, smooth front of tissue to avoid wrinkles. Do the same for all the strips of pattern.Make own washi tape PIC 7
7. Using scissors, cut around tape.

8. To use the washi tape, just peel the second backing off tap and apply to project.

How cool is that? Peppermint Creative has some digital paper that makes amazing washi tape! I can’t wait to play with some of the chevron and polka dot papers. Oh! And the wood patterns… I hope you’re excited about this as I am!

So Sweet

About a year ago I caught the digital paper BUG! I rarely ever buy stacks of traditional paper anymore. I know I can buy a pack of digital paper for next to nothing and print out as many sheets as I need, plus it’s great to know I will never run out!
Part of the fun in playing with digital paper is adding my own personal twist to them. I saw the perfect opportunity to jazz up the strawberry pattern paper from the new Berry Sweet Digital Scrapbook Kit (free for a limited time) from Peppermint Creative.
Digital hybrid strawberry layout3
Included in this kit, are the cutest little felt strawberries. I sized the strawberries so they were exactly the same size as the ones in the pattern paper, then printed and cut them out using my Silhouette Cameo  (can also be done by a steady hand!)
The beautiful thing about digital paper is that you DO NOT need a special printer! I often use a regular all in one printer and get great letter sized prints!
I added some foam stickers to the back of my strawberries to make them stand out from the paper.

Adding the strawberries over top of the ones in the pattern paper gave a great detail to my layout!

Such a simple, easy way to take pattern paper to the next level! There are other great ways to really make the most of your digital paper as well – add glitter, rhinestones, glossy accents, flock, sequins, etc.
Let the digital paper addictions begin!!

Hybrid Layout - Daughter

Hey everyone!! If you visit my blog often, you might know I have recently started doing a lot of hybrid projects, using digital scrapbooking kits. I have had a few questions about what exactly "hybrid" is, so I thought I would dedicate a post to answering that question!

Hybrid crafting is using a combination of traditional paper and elements (buttons, glitter, etc.), with digital elements (pictures of pattern paper or elements that are computer files). Digital elements can be printed out, then cut by hand or a by using a machine such as the Silhouette.

My favorite thing about creating using digital elements is the ability to lay my projects out on screen (in a program like Silhouette Software, or Photoshop) to see how they will turn out, before starting to assemble them. Changing the size and arrangement of elements means the possibilities with digital elements are really endless. I think my FAVORITE thing about digital kits, is that you can use the paper and elements over and over and over again! I tend to hoard my traditional paper and elements, and I know I'm not the only one!! (Right?! ;)) As FUN as playing with digital elements are... if you are like me, you NEED to get your hands in there!! Once all the digital elements are printed and cut out (I like printing on plain white, textured paper), traditional supplies like twine, pearls, glitter, buttons etc. can be added for extra depth and texture.

In my layout below, I started with my digital aspects... I started with a 12x12 square and filled it will my blue background paper. I could print the paper out at this point, but I knew I wanted to add doilies and other elements, which are really detailed and can be a little tricky to cut out. Instead, I made these elements part of my background paper. When I printed out my base sheet of my layout, I included my 12x12 blue base, doilies, a few strips of quatrefoil-ish pattern paper and two wood circle borders. Everything else you see on the page (flowers, tags, text) was printed/cut out individually, then added onto my page along with pictures and some pearls.

To add some dimension, and to hide those ugly white edges that sometimes show after cutting elements out, I used fluid chalk ink (I like Colorbox) to ink the edges of my elements. (You can see the brown along the edges of my orange quote strips). I also use foam stickers to adhere some elements to add even more dimension.

In the pic above, you can get a better view of how my base 12x12 sheet of paper was printed with the doilies and wooden borders right on it.

For my layout I used the Uniquely You kit from Peppermint Creative (one of my favorite kits!!).

How inspired are you just by looking at this kit?! The possibilities are endless!!
I hope I answered some questions about hybrid scrapbooking!!! Prepare to be addicted!!! :)

You Are the Milk to My Cookie (Tutorial)

Oh my gosh... I love the card I have for you today! :) I hope you think it's as cute as I do!!

I paired two SVGs - a freebie from Miss Kate Cutables (the cookie) and a jug of milk from Lettering Delights - and used the PNC (print & cut) feature to make the main focal point of my card. Of COURSE I used Peachy Keen faces on my characters... the face set I used is the Wide Eyed Kids Assortment. I used a shape from Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons and filled it with some digital paper from Lettering Delights (the Once Upon A Princess set) to create my background for my milk & cookie. If you would like to see how I did everything in Silhouette Studio to design this card, check out the tutorial below!

My blue banner is also from Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons and is filled with another pattern from the Once Upon A Princess set from Lettering Delights. My sentiment comes from the Pink By Design stamp set, You Are. I also added a touch of Divine twine.

If you would like to see how I assembled this card, here is that part!!

I am linking this card up over at the Scrapbook Steals blog a, Scrappy Mom's, Peachy Keen, and the CAS on Sunday Challenge Blog

PPPR - Warm Birthday Wishes

It's Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons Wednesday!! Always a great day! :)

Today I used some prints from the Natural Love collection...

And two sets of Lisa's cutting files...

(these are sized perfectly for an A2 card)

Here's what I came up with...

Doesn't it make you want some hot chocolate?? I had to have this set since EVERY time my girls go outside to play in the snow they HAVE to come in and have hot cocoa! I even got them special Disney Princess mugs for Christmas that they can have their hot cocoa in.

I also have a SURPRISE for you all! :) I actually put together a video of how I assembled this card.  I'm always so scared of videos but after doing my haul video the other day and then this one, I think I'll be doing them on a regular basis. They're actually kind of fun! :)

Let me know what you think! (Other than that it's really amateur! :))

Make sure to head over to the Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons blog to see what the rest of the DT made!! And if you haven't done so yet, make sure you sign up for Lisa's newsletter! She always has sneak peeks, project spotlights as well as information about the occasional sale!

Have a great day!!

Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons Halloween Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbon Blog Hop!!

If you have come here from Ana Maria's blog then you are in the right spot! If you have stumbled upon this hop, please head back to Lisa's blog - Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons - to make sure you don't miss out on anything!!!

I choose to work with the Halloween cuties from the Monster Mash Graphics set along with Digital Paper from the Chevron & Harlequin paper pack.

I had a little help with my project today. Since these are little treat boxes for my daughters I thought I would let them choose which little character they would like on their own boxes. I knew they would forget about them by the time Halloween came around and they also had no idea what I was doing with the little characters....

I used print and cut with my Cameo along with Lisa's digital papers to make the pillow boxes.

I added some glossy accents over my character's eyes to give them some detail and popped them up with foam stickers. The sentiments are from Pink By Design, bling is from Michaels, twine is Grape Fizz from Trendy Twine.

I bought some little gummy spiders to put inside the pillow boxes. I also thought some of you might like to see a little tutorial of how I made these using the Silhouette Studio. I don't do tutorials often, but I am so excited about using print/cut along with digital papers that I wanted to share the awesomeness of it all!! :)

1. I started out by opening up a new project in my Silhouette Studio then selected the Letter size (since I am using a regular printer which only prints Letter size) in the Page Tools Window
2. Next I opened up the Registration Marks Setting Window and checked the box 'Show Reg Marks'. A grey pattern shows up along one edge of the sheet, as well as in one other corner. You will not be able to cut anything within this grey pattern. (CLICK ON PICS TO SEE THEM LARGER)

3. I opened a pillow box SVG through the library in the Silhouette software (which I had previously purchased this cut from the Silhouette store). I sized the cut to be slightly smaller than the max size my Letter sized sheet would allow (the red border).

I plan to fill my pillow box in with digital paper... If you have ever tried the print and cut feature with the Silhouette, sometimes you might notice the cut doesn't match up EXACTLY to the graphic, leaving a little white edge around your cut. Drives me nuts, so I have a few little tricks to make sure this doesn't happen to my cuts without wasting a bunch of printer ink. I create a little border around my cut which will be filled with a pattern to give the Silhouette a little room to be 'off' in its cutting.

4. First create an outline of the outside of the pillowbox.... Open up the Trace window, select 'Select Trace Area', and draw a box enclosing the whole pillow box. Uncheck the 'High Pass Filter' box, and slide the Threshold slider all the way to the right so the pillow box is outlined in yellow. Click 'Trace Outer Edge' option.

5. Select the outline you have just created... To select this outline, you might have to zoom right in. Once you have selected the trace line - and not the actual pillow box itself, which can be tricky sometimes - choose the Offset window. Choose offset then change the Offset Distance. I used 0.200, then clicked Apply. I then deleted the original outline that was created when we traced the pillow box.

6. Fill the new shape we created from Offsetting the outline of the pillow box. To do this, open a window where your digital paper is located. Make sure your outline shape is selected, then drag and drop the pattern you choose onto the outline shape.

7. Your outline shape should be filled with the pattern. Next, double check the cut lines in the Cut Style Window. It doesn't really matter if the outline gets cut, but it doesn't really need to get cut... Select the outline then choose No Cut. Make sure the original pillow box is outlined in red (as pictured) so that it WILL cut.

8. At this point you can print, send the print through your Silhouette to cut your pillow box and then decorate!! :)

I hope my tutorial was clear enough!! If you have any questions at all, feel free to contact me and I will clarify! I would love everyone to be able to have as much fun with digital papers as I have been having - the possibilities are endless! :)
